- I will be taking a break from blogging for awhile, so enjoy this last entry for now!
A while ago I had the pleasure of spending a weekend at five-star Kichaka Luxury Lodge a stone’s throw away from Grahamstown. Apart from feasting my eyes and senses on the game reserve’s rich offering of wildlife, pampering and culinary delights, I found the curios shop to be a real gem…
For starters there is the dazzle of Cape Town-based Joya Collection with to-die-for rings handcrafted from smooth black agate (R450) and black agate drusy (R595). See below…
These featured Joya rings even made a turn at the Cannes Film Festival when South African model Candice Boucher donned an agate drusy with her daring see-through black Gavin Rajah number on the red carpet… And apparently Candice is also collaborating with the local line on some pieces.
Mother-and-daughter team Daphne and Victoria Fenner are the combined driving force behind Joya Collection which came into being in 2000 with the talented Sipho Mahlungu as master craftsman.
Joya is also known for statement cuffs and necklaces, stone and leather bracelets, friendship bracelets, gemstone charm bracelets, wrap bracelets, Swarovski chandelier earrings, agate rings in neon colours and silver stacking rings with beautiful charms and stones.
The collection of handbags to pick and choose from at the shop, was the next thing to catch my roving shopper’s eye. These one-of-a-kind creations called Bokkies are handcrafted from exotic hides, skins and leather.
Owner Ellen Fortmann-Biesheuvel moved from Holland to South Africa in 2003 before starting Bokkies with Cape Town as base.
The brand ranges from evening bags to gym and work bags, as well as boots and is Proudly Dutch African according to Ellen!
